5 Essential Oils to use this Valentines Day (or any day really!)

I am one of those "everyday is valentines day" people. I don't understand it, but that doesn't mean there aren't others out there who absolutely LOVE the festivities of valentines day. Regardless I think it's safe to assume, if you're here, you love love.

I'm about to take you through 5 essential oils that are some of my favourites when it comes to love and intimacy in the sexual, physical, and/or mental realms, with others, or on your own.

5 Essential Oils to use this Valentines Day (or any day).

1. Lavender

Arguably, one of the most well known and popular Essential Oils (dare I say, the gateway oil?), Lavender Oil. Lavender has been used throughout the history of time as a topical treatment for bug bites and minor abrasions, to a tool to induce a sense of calm and reduce stress.

We all suffer from stress and/or anxiety at some point in our lives. Lavender oil reminds us to surrender to the flow with calm and ease. Apply that rationale to love, romance, self-love and relationships we can see why Lavender oil is on the list.

From a more intimate/spicy/erotic perspective, Lavender oil may increase arousal. Pair that with its relaxing and calming vibes, Lavender seems like a perfect tool to have around on Valentines day.

2. Ginger

Ginger was used in Chinese Medicines to treat erectile dysfunction. Presently, it has been proven to increase blood flow by dilating the blood vessels. This could lead to an increase in libido and sexual arousal.

Think about it.. Ginger is warming, spicy, uplifting and energizing, all of which are words I would use to describe a vibe I would like to experience with my partner... or myself.

3. Sandalwood

Sandalwood is another of those oils that can be used daily to help set and maintain the emotional tone of the day. Its sweet, woody aroma instantly transports you to a place of comfort and safety.

When used as an aphrodisiac, Sandalwood essential oil has been said to have a similar chemical effect on the brain as human pheromones. Research has also suggested that women who smelled Sandalwood essential oil during sexual intercourse reported higher states of desire than those who didn't.

Random Fun Fact: Sandalwood is the oil that my male friends gravitate towards. It's always in their top 3 oils.

4. Ylang Ylang

Where do I start? Probably one of my top 5 oils of all time and here's why:

Ylang Ylang transports me back into my femininity, my sexual energy, my confidence, self-love and self-worth. It does this thing where it encourages a particular type of relaxation, comfort, and peace that you feel comfortable enough to let yourself rest in your authenticity and in your softer side.

Take that and throw in that it's an aphrodisiac, no wonder it's popular in products like massage oils, perfume, bodywash, and bath soaks. Ylang Ylang promotes connectedness and intimacy between partners, increased sensitivity to touch, and boosts libido.

 5. Patchouli

Mystifying, grounding and sensual, Patchouli essential oil has been used in India for many years as a calming aphrodisiac. With its musky, earthy, slightly sweet, and spicy aroma, it became a popular scent among the 'hippies' for its free-loving vibe and because it could hide the smell of alcohol and weed.

Just because it is a calming aphrodisiac doesn't mean it isn't potent. Using Patchouli oil in a romantic sense has been said to help ease tension, increase desire while boosting connection between partners and the self.

Is it hot in here?

Like with any essential oil, do not expect it to work its magic on its own. You need to set the intention, attune your mind to the effect you want to get from the oils and let your mind (in this case, and body) do the rest.
